I cannot talk enough about the importance of using good quality makeup brushes. People often want to achieve that professional, blended look, but get discouraged when they can’t recreate it. It is almost always the lack of proper brushes, as you are only as good as your tools. A good brush is hand crafted with natural hair, or made of high quality synthetic fibers. Synthetic brushes are usually used for cream/liquid products. Natural bristle brushes can be used for powder products, but I don’t recommend using them with creams or liquids as these textures can clog the hairs, ruining the brush in the process. I suggest you invest in building a good brush set, most high priced brushes will last you a lot longer than the cheaper ones, just be sure to clean them properly on a regular basis. Washing them with a mild shampoo will do the trick, and if you’re using them every day, clean them once every 2 weeks. The most important brushes to start off with are: Blush, eye shadow (a firm one for the eyelid, and a fluffy blending one for the eye crease), eyeliner, and a concealer brush. Once you have these in your collection, you can add more depending on your own unique needs. Some lines to shop from: MAC , Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier.
