First off I’d like to wish all my sisters out there a very Happy International Women’s Day! I love the idea of this day and that it brings awareness to issues that women face on a daily basis especially when it comes to equality. The fact that we are still facing equality issues seems a little ridiculous considering it’s 2016. Seriously. SMH.
One of the most inspirational women that I have crossed paths with recently has got to be actress and women’s rights activist, Patricia Arquette. I don’t need to tell you that Patricia Arquette comes from a very famous Hollywood family. Her name says it all. What I do need to tell you is that she is involved in a very powerful movement called Equal means Equal.
Patricia was one of the featured celebrities at the Vanity Fair Social Club event I recently attended. She had to be my favorite because of the passion she has in bringing equality to women everywhere. Equal means equal was created to urge the Government to regulate equality in pay for men and women in the same job. At the moment I believe what she had said is that a woman makes $0.77 for every $1.00 a man makes. Which seems so incredibly absurd that I almost can’t believe it! It’s even less for female minorities!!
How this is a real statistic in this day and age baffles me. That’s why I’m so happy she created Equal means Equal. It’s not even just about equal pay. It’s about so much more than that. I wanted to help in any way I could and bring more awareness to the cause, so seriously guys go check out their website equalmeansequal.com.
It’s time for us women to unite and elevate ourselves in this world. Enough female bashing, body shaming, cattiness and drama. Let’s put all of the hate aside and treat each other with compassion, respect and empathy. When good things happen to your fellow sister, celebrate it and then go ahead and use that positive energy to elevate your own life.
