This is going to be a bit of a different blog post, a bit of a personal one.
With 2014 winding down, I’ve been thinking a lot about the year that has passed and how it has been, so far, the best year of my life.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to make a living following my passion and have been as of late receiving some pretty amazing comments and messages from you guys asking about how I became successful and/or how I stay motivated. (Which thank you so much btw, honestly I have the best, kindest and sweetest readers out of anyone!)
That got me thinking about how pretty & sparkly everything can look on the outside. What’s the saying? Everyone’s lives look better on facebook?
That’s been on my mind a lot lately and how I absolutely do not want to perpetuate that myth. I am just like everyone else, I’ve had times in my life where I’ve lost direction and lost motivation, heck I even started losing my passion! I went through a period of time where I was lost in a sea of self doubt. You know the kind that exists inside and drowns everything out, taking with it that hope and desire to make your life one you can actually be proud of.
That’s when I realized we don’t have all the answers ourselves.
I think for the most part everyone has these kinds of feelings at some point or other, I know I’m not alone in that. The thing is you don’t want to stay in that forever.
I started 2014 with the determination to go from just existing to thriving. All I wanted was to be happy. Every moment of every day. But how does one just be happy?
The answer is you need to make yourself happy. It takes work and it takes making investing in yourself a priority.
I started to think a lot more about that and through my research I happened upon Jesse Brisendine.
Jesse is a life coach who’s main purpose in life is to help other people live their fullest lives possible. I started watching his videos and reading his articles. There was something about him. I think the fact that he was so open and honest about his life and his neverending determination to look at the positive no matter what is what got me hooked.
I knew if I wanted to change I couldn’t do it alone and I had to contact him. I began working with him mid-January.
9 months and LOTS of homework later (the homework was the best part!) I found my happiness. I’ve always felt that all these things that we do on the outside- the makeup, the hair, the clothes, all these things are important as they do help you feel good about yourself. There is another half though, and that is the work that you have to do on the inside. Combine the two and you are unstoppable.
I wanted to share with you the 3 biggest lessons I learnt from Jesse on how to be happy:
1. Life is all about perception. If you look at your life or a situation in your life from a negative perspective, guess what? It’s gonna suck. Try to find any way possible to look at it in a positive light instead.
2. You have to literally bombard yourself with positive messages. That means watching the videos, following the facebook & insta accounts with the positive quotes. The videos I watch that I absolutely love are Jesse’s (obvy), Eric Thomas & Robin Sharma to name a few.
3. Find the fun in every moment. That was one of my fav lessons. The easiest way to make any task fun? Put on some music.
Jesse is hands down one of the best people I have ever met in my life. The thing about Jesse is that although he is a phenomenal person, he’s real. Just like you and I. It would be so easy to put someone like him up on a pedestal, but he would never let you. He’s been through the same things as the rest of us and he has the same moments as the rest of us, the difference is in how he deals with it all.
I’m not saying my life is perfect now. Trust me I still have my moments (although they are fewer and further between). What I am saying is I now have the tools to pull myself out of those moments. The reason I’m sharing this with you all is that I want you to know that you are not alone in those moments of self doubt & cynicism. We’ve all been there. I just want you to know that you can overcome it all. You absolutely can make your dreams a reality, you just might need some help along the way and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
If you want to contact Jesse, click here & follow him on facebook for tons of awesome positive messages.
Here’s to an amazing 2015!
