I am about to embark on one of the toughest missions I have ever gone through- a 30 day skin detox diet. Now if you’ve been watching my tutorials, you are probably wondering why I would feel the need to go through a skin detox. I mean I do have pretty decent skin, apart from the occasional blemish I don’t have much to complain about. But what you don’t know is that I have had eczema since I was a child and for the past 2 years I have had this persistent dry patch in the middle of my forehead. I have tried everything under the sun to treat this, from all natural ointments, to the incredibly expensive La Mer moisturizer and nothing helps. I have applied steroid creams specially formulated to treat eczema and while that will make it go away for a few days, it always inevitably returns.
So I started looking into my diet. I have been a vegetarian for 17 years, but trust me in those 17 years I have probably eaten more junk than your average meat eater. I started seeing a holistic nutritionist, Joy McCarthy two years ago and started learning more about how what we put into our bodies in the way of food totally shows up in our skin. I mean if you’ve ever seen a holistic nutritionist in person, they have the most beautiful glowy skin I have ever seen!! I wanted to learn more so I watched films like “Food Inc.“, “Food Matters” and most recently, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead“. This last film has really inspired my detox. The man in the film suffered from a skin condition his whole life that required him to take tons of pills every single day! He decided to go on a 60 day juice fast and since then his life has completely changed. He no longer has to take any medication, he has become very fit and has tons of energy and the part I am most excited about- his mind has become razor sharp.
Now I know there is no way I could last 60 days, so what I am going to do is a 10 day juice fast. I’ll juice green veggies and a little bit of fruit for 10 days straight, once that time is up I will eat only raw fruits, veggies and nuts for the following 20 days. I know it isn’t gonna be easy and I’m sure some of you probably think I am crazy, but coming from a junk food addict this is something that I simply have to try. So wish me luck! My journey begins tomorrow ( I HATE the whole I’ll start my diet on Monday cliche, so I’m starting on Sunday instead..lol) and I will check in with you guys every few days to let you know how it is going.
Here we go…perfect skin here I come!!
