When you think of Spring, the first images that come to mind are of tulips, sunshine, blue skies and the first signs of color popping up everywhere. Spring is the time when people put away their giant black knit sweaters and reach for anything light and bright. It’s the best time of year! Well get ready my friends, because this spring is going to take color to a whole new level.
We have seen the emergence of color blocking as a trend in fashion for the past year, and if you have seen any of the 2012 spring/summer runway shows, you will know that this trend isn’t going away any time soon. Not only will we see it in the clothes that people wear but we will also see it in the makeup too.
What does that mean exactly? Well usually when we think about applying any bright/bold color on our face the thought has been to keep everything else neutral. Well that’s not the case this spring. We are seeing bold colored eyes and lips worn together.
Here’s how you can recreate the look at home without looking overdone:
Pick a color palette with harmonious colors. That means pairing warm tones with warm and cool tones with cool, bright shades with bright and pastels with pastels.
Create a distinct barrier between colors. What that means is if you are going to apply two bold colors on your eyes, don’t blend the edges between them together. Have the line separating the two be distinct.
Choose from the season’s hottest colors- Orangey red, bold yellow, bright orange, peacock blue and hot bubblegum pink- think MAC’s newest Viva Glam hue Nicki.
Don’t go overboard. Color blocking is meant to be lighthearted and fun, so stick to 2 colors max on eyes paired with a bold shade on the lips.
Don’t be so afraid of color this spring, get out of your comfort zone and experiment a little. You never know what you’ll come up with. Most of all, let’s get back to having fun with our makeup!
