Lately I’ve really been into cutting back on the toxins I’m exposed to on a daily basis, and believe me there are toxins EVERYWHERE!! It’s in your food, your skin care and even your makeup. So while it’s been hard for me to make the switch when it comes to my makeup, my skin care has been a lot easier. I love natural skin care, and the products that have the fewest ingredients and more natural ones you can pronounce are my fav! So imagine my delight when I attended the Environmental Defence‘s Eco Beauty Market and stumbled upon Cocoon Apothecary. There stuff is amazing! Jessica, the founder of the company was telling me all about how much research and testing was put into the line when they started the biz, and how they manufacture the products in a cosmetics lab in her home.
I had the pleasure of testing out a few of their products:
Petal Purity Exfoliating Facial Cleanser
This is their exfoliant. I like this because the beads are so tiny and round and smooth, and you could feel how gentle this exfoliant is compared to others. When you choose an exfoliant you want to make sure the beads are as smooth as possible so you don’t inflict your skin with micro lacerations from all the scrubbing.
It contains Jojoba beads, Lavender oil and Geranium oil. These help fight acne and balance the skin and the lavendar is anti-bacterial which is a bonus! You can use it on all skin types
Ancient Mud
I love this stuff! I’m a huge fan of clay masks, I love the feeling of it tightening my skin and all those pores opening up. A lot of different lines will claim to have dead sea mud in them but what you don’t know is that they percentage it contains can be very low. Not this mask! Plus it contains glacial marine clay from British Columbia which goes deep into your pores to get rid of nasty toxins. The thing I loved most about it was that the parts of my face that have the worst problems were the parts I could feel getting detoxified.
Rosey Cheeks Facial Cream
This moisturizer works well for normal to dry skin, and although normally I’m combination, during the Canadian winters my skin tends to dry out a lot. My first thoughts on this cream- it looks and smells great, not too potent smelling. The texture is pretty thick and so I was expecting a greasy feel on the skin, but it actually absorbs beautifully! It makes your skin feel thoroughly hydrated without feeling like there’s an oil slick left on your face. That I find is a pretty rare combo.
It contains antioxidants and minerals such as Rosehip oil, Shea butter, Avocado oil and Green tea oil, all really great for your skin.
If you want to give this line a try, you can purchase it from several different independant retailers around Toronto or just go to their website. If you’re looking to switch to a more natural line, I would def recommend taking a look at their products!
