Being a makeup artist for so many years, the one question that I usually get asked (besides how to do a smokey eye) is “what color eyeshadow should I be wearing”. That’s probably the one reason I hear that most people won’t even touch the stuff, they don’t feel like they know what looks good on them and what doesn’t. Well don’t worry, it’s reall not nearly as complicated as you’d think!
If you ever took an art class in your life, you will know that there is a certain theory that comes into play when combining colors together. How does it all work? Take a look at the color wheel below. Complimentary colors, or colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel make the most impact on eachother when placed side by side. So if you have blue eyes, anything with a peach or copper tone to it will make them pop. For green, a shadow with a pink or purple shade to it works best. For brown, you can try a navy or if you are so bold, a bright aqua shade.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t wear whatever color you want, it just means that these colors will work best for you. Remember, makeup is art, a form of self expression and you are meant to have fun with it!

What would you recommend for black eyes? Obviously this would be really dark brown eyes, but for the most part they look black. Do they still fall under the brown eyes category or do they have additional rules?
Deepa Berar says
They would fall under the same rules as brown as technically they are considered to be very dark brown.
