I was asked a little while ago to blog about my experience in Makeup School and I thought it would be helpful to some of you considering this career. I went to George Brown’s Yorkville School of Makeup in Toronto. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in school, it was the first time I ever experienced the joy of studying and learning. George Brown was a great school and the facility (right in the heart of Yorkville) was definitely fun to travel to every day. Toronto has a lot of really great schools, Complections International is another amazing one. It does come with a pretty hefty price tag, but I have yet to see an artist come out of there with less than stellar abilities. Wink Makeup Academy is my new fave, it’s smaller and very personal and the team there is great. I took an Airbrushing course there. Anyways, my point is that there is a lot out there to choose from and if you are serious about makeup being your career I suggest you attend a good school, it will be worth it in the end. There are a lot of people out there who are self taught and amazing at what they do, but if you’re like me, I’d rather know the theory behind what I’m doing than just blindly doing it. Good luck to you all!
