Week 12 Berar Family Parties and Valentines

Happy Family Day to my fellow Canadians! Hope you guys are all enjoying this time with your families. I was at work this morning and evening, the news never sleeps.

What a week! Life definitely knocked me on my butt. I ended up catching a stomach bug and spent half the week recuperating in time for one of our infamous Berar family parties! It was for my cousin Kelly’s daughter Leeya and was so much fun.

Week 12 Alopecia Regrowth

Before we get to the party let’s start with the beginning of the week. I posted a mini alopecia regrowth update on my Insta stories. I was just sharing the different stages of regrowth and what to except. For me it has all grown back in at different stages, some patches are 6-7 inches long, some are 3-4 and some are still filling in. Just wanted to give you guys an idea on what to expect.

Week 12 Valentines Makeup

It was also Valentines this week, I did a little tutorial (the look above) which is up on the channel now. While I didn’t get any quality time with Derek this week (other than FaceTime) I did get some good quality mommy/daughter time!

Week 12 Mommy and Daughter time

The rest of this post will be pics from Leeya’s party. The party started at noon and went well into the evening. Here are the ladies singing and dancing. Too cute.

Week 12 Boliyan

Here are my cousins and I. Juhi is on the left and Mona is on the right :)

Week 12 Berar Family Parties

Tania and I played a few rounds of Jenga. Can you believe I’ve never played?! It was so fun! I lost, but it was still just a really fun game. I’d love to play one of those giant Jenga games you see at bars.

Week 12 Jenga

The dessert table. The cupcakes were so good. If you’re looking for a good cupcake shop in Mississauga, check out Swirls on Queen St.

Week 12 Dessert table for Leeya

Saved the best for last! My cousin Kelly and her unbelievably adorable daughter Leeya. I was telling Kelly how Leeya reminds me of Snow White. The cutest baby. Next to Kai and Rai of course. I think they’re all tied for first place ;)

Week 12 Kelly and Leeya

That was the week! What did you guys get up to for Family Day?

My Life- Family Time & Behind the Scenes at a TV Station

Week 11 Family Time and Behind the scenes at a TV Station

Back with another My Life post for ya guys! This past week was crazy busy, did some travelling out to Ottawa to visit my brother’s family, did a beauty segment on a TV station there and got to meet up with my friend Happy and watch her eat some crazy stuff…and I vlogged it all!! The video is at the end of this post, but let’s get into the week before I have to head off to CH.

Week 10 Ottawa Road Trip

So the drive there and back was pretty crazy. Everyone knows that Canada has pretty cold winters, but we really haven’t get nearly as much snow as we did when I was a kid. This winter has changed that all. It’s been nothing but massive snowfalls since I’ve been back from California!! Anyways, the drive was worth it because I got to meet my new nephew Rai! What a cutie!!

Week 10 Rai Berar

Can’t forget the O.G Kai :) He’s so freakin adorable and is saying a few words now and his smile just melts my heart.

Week 10 Kai Berar

So as I mentioned, I did a little beauty segment on Daytime Ottawa which was a lot of fun! I’ve only been on my station that I work at, CH and then of course Eye on Asia, so it was really cool going to a different station. We talked Valentine’s beauty and gift ideas.

Week 10 Daytime Ottawa Beauty Segment

Whenever I’m in Ottawa I always meet up with my friend Happy. We’ve been friends since high school, and we didn’t even go to the same one! She was friends with my cousins and we’ve all adopted her into our family so everyone knows her.

Week 10 Dinner with Happy at El Camino Ottawa

We went to El Camino which is a pretty popular Mexican restaurant in Ottawa. Funny cause Derek and I love going to the El Camino in San Diego, but they’re not even the same owners or anything. Happy was so brave with her order.

Week 10 El Camino Pig's Head

She had the pig’s head taco which we couldn’t believe but they actually cut it up right in front of us (so, so happy I had already finished my food by that time) and an ox tongue taco. I mean I thought I was pretty adventurous with food, but definitely not even close to her. I could never.

Week 10 El Camino Ox Tail Taco

So I got back into town on Wednesday, spent some time with the parents and then headed out for drinks with my girlfriends Jasmina & Kaitryn on Saturday night which was sooo much fun. I hadn’t gotten to spend time with them in a while. We met up at Jasmina’s indoor golf facility, Faraway Greens and then headed to my new fav spot, Beertown ;)

Week 10 Drinks with the Girls at Beertown

That was my week! Here’s the Ottawa vlog for ya

How was your week? What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Week 10 Girls Night

So I am having a pretty great week so far, I’m in Ottawa spending time with my brother and sister in law! got to meet my nephew Rai- he’s so adorable!! and I’m getting to spend quality time with Kai which is always nice! I’ll post pics from my trip on next week’s My Life post, but let’s go back to last week. It was a super fun filled packed week of events, starting off with my appearance on CHCH Morning Live on Monday. Host Annette Hamm and I talked about Valentine’s beauty ideas as well as gifts. If you missed the segment, you can watch it here.

Week 10 On CHCH Morning Live

We got hit with some serious winter weather last week as well! We got about 10 cm’s of snow I think. It took forever to get home from work! Probably because I drove 40 km/hr all the way home haha. I did not care! I’d rather arrive late and in one piece.

Week 10 Snowstorm

So that was the bad part of the snow, but here’s the good. Freshly fallen snow is just so incredibly beautiful!!

Week 10 Beautiful Snow

Are you guys big into smoothie bowls? I just started having them recently but have never tried making one at home. I finally tried this week! Guys, it was sooo good. It had frozen strawberries, blueberries, half a banana,  protein powder (Vega brand), almond milk and water. I don’t like to do too much almond milk otherwise it can taste too thick. This one was great, although I’d like to try it with a different protein powder.

Week 10 Smoothie Bowl

Friday was girls night! I invited some of my cousins on my dad’s side over for pre drinks at my place. We love our little parties. We all hang out by the bar and have drinks and play music, it’s a fun time. I made some appys too.

Week 10 Cheers

For dinner we headed out to my new fav restaurant in Burlington- Beertown. The girls were making fun of me because if you knew me pre Derek you’d know I’d never touch beer. Hanging out with him has changed that. I still will only have it maybe every few months, but trust me that’s a vast improvement from before. I love the one paddle they make at Beertown- it has Erdinger, Kronenbourg, Cider and Fruli. If you’re a beer person, you’ll know from that how much of a beer person I am not lol.

Week 10 Beertown Burlington

I also had my fav, a burger with a lettuce bun, sweet potato fries and aioli dip!

Week 10 Beertown Burger Burlington

Ok, so this was probably one of the most exciting parts of the week. I beat Derek at our Fitbit challenge!! Fitbit’s track how many steps you take in a day and then you can add friends on your fitbit app to do challenges. We usually do the work week challenge and I almost always lose to him because he’s on his feet for work all day long and I am not. I was so proud of my trophy. Guys if you’re looking for something to get you moving more, seriously look into the fitbit. This isn’t sponsored by them or anything, I just really love it!

Week 10 Fitbit Challenge Win

Saturday night we went out for dinner with my cousins on my mom’s side for my cousin Preethi’s birthday. We headed over to Saucy’s in Mississauga. Great restaurant and great food! It was nice having good quality girl time, so necessary sometimes!

Week 10 Saucys Mississauga

Here’s my cousin Preethi and Shishee. The restaurant did a little gelato birthday dessert for her.

Week 10 Preethi's birthday

That was the week! How was your guys week? Do any of you have fitbits or use another step tracker? Do you love it?

My Life- Estée Lauder Event, Toronto Love & Finding My New Healthy

Week 9 Estee Lauder Event Lip Envy

Hey guys! Hope your Mondays are going well, mine has been pretty crazy so far. Worked this morning and was on air talking Valentine’s beauty (I’ll share pics on next week’s post), blogging now and then back to work for the afternoon. Plus it’s snowing like crazy outside! Snow really is a beautiful thing when it first falls. Anyways back to last week! The majority of it was pretty uneventful other than work, blogging and youtube, but the fun part of the week was attending the Estée Lauder event in Toronto!

Week 9 Estee Lauder Event Soho Hotel

It took place on the Penthouse floor of the Soho Metropolitan Hotel. Guys the room was crazyyy. 3 floors in the suite + an elevator. An elevator!!! The event was primarily about the new Perfectionist Pro line. Let me tell you, you’re gonna love the Instant wrinkle filler. It’s like magic eraser in a tube!

Week 9 Estee Lauder Event Perfectionist Pro Technology

We got to hear about the technology that went into designing these products. Apparently Estée Lauder is the first company to use System biology which is the science of studying things as a whole They used this to help them develop a product that would actually boost collagen in the skin. Pretty cool.

Week 9 Estee Lauder Event Perfectionist Pro

Ok can I say that the food spread was crazy? Took a ton of willpower to not dive into the churros!!

Week 9 Estee Lauder Event Food

My fav product I have to say was the new Aerin fragrance, Hibiscus Palm. It literally smelt like you were in the tropics, but not in an overwhelming way. If you like floral fragrances, you will like this one.

Week 9 Estee Lauder Event Aerin Hibiscus Palm

Ahh the view. You can travel the globe but nothing compares to home. Whenever I see the CN Tower, it just feels like I crawled into a warm, cozy blanket :)

Week 9 Toronto

So I was tagged by Priyanka Oza to share 5 random facts about me on IG stories so I went digging into my childhood pics and came across this gem. It’s Kabir Bedi and I back in the day. It’s funny cause I would not take a picture of him without that can of Ginger Ale. He was cool with it. Lol.

Week 9 Deepa Berar Kabir Bedi

For those of you that don’t know, my uncle, Darshan Sahota (yes from Eye on Asia) was a concert promoter back in the day and brought tons of Bollywood stars over to Toronto to do shows. So we grew up with all these crazy famous people around us. We were little so we didn’t really understand, but man I have some pretty great memories from those days :)

Week 9 The Chopped Leaf Burlington

Ok so if you guys watched my 1.5 year Alopecia update video, you’ll have heard me talk about finding a new balance with my health and nutrition. Lately I’ve been focusing on adding more healthy options to my diet instead of focusing on restricting. I feel like I’ve tried all of the fad diets out there and they’ve never been a permanent solution, so looking at it as a realistic lifestyle change centred around my health has been a game changer for me. I’m focusing on getting more veggies and fruits in and we just came off of a 10,000 steps challenge in the Deep Beauty Facebook community. Derek and I are keeping it going with weekly challenges against each other. Just do whatever motivates you and focus on adding instead of restricting.

Week 9 Fitbit Challenge

So that’s what I’ve been up to! What about you guys? Have you implemented any lasting healthy changes in your life? I’d love to hear what’s worked for you!

My Life- Back to Canada + Kelly’s Bday!

Monday, January 22, 2018 0 0

Week 8 Back to Canada and Kellys bday Deepa Berar

Welcome back to another My Life post! We are back in Canada guys, and yes I miss my hubby already!! Trying to throw myself into my work and not to think about it too much. It’s been great being back at work and seeing my family though, you have to try your best to focus on the positives and what you have to be thankful for to get you through the harder times. Even keeping a gratitude journal helps so much..hmm I might just start doing that ;)

Week 8 Derek at Coronado Brewery

So before I left Cali, Derek and I headed out for drinks with his friends. We went to the Coronado Brewing Co. You guys have heard me talk about beer flights before, it’s the best way to try new beers without committing to a whole pint. I’m not much of a beer person at all so this is my fav way to drink it.

Week 8 Coronado Brewery Charcuterie Board

We did indulge in our fav thing on the planet, a good old charcuterie board! This one was ok. Derek and I were talking about how we feel like we’re charcuterie snobs now so everything has to be on point to impress us lol.

Week 8 Heading back to Canada

It’s funny how the landscape changes as you fly from one end of North America to the other. I woke up at one point during the flight and looked outside and saw desert so I knew I’d probably only slept for an hour tops. As we got further along, the more snow you saw. Not that I was surprised by it, it’s just interesting to watch. The weather actually hasn’t been too bad since I’ve been back!

Week 8 Back at CHCH

Ok one thing that keeps me sane while I’m home is working. It’s so good to be back at CHCH TV. For those of you that don’t know, I’m a television makeup artist. I apply makeup on the news anchors and guests. It’s a fun job and you get to meet the coolest people. Like this morning I met a sommelier known on IG as Superwinegirl and she was telling me all about how she was selected out of hundreds of people to work on a vineyard in South Africa for a month. So cool!

Week 8 Makeup 101 Videos

We’re going strong with our Makeup 101 videos, if you haven’t checked them out, head to the channel!

Week 8 Organizing

I’ve been cleaning and organizing my room as well. It just seems like it’s never ending. Is it just me?

Week 8 Me and Kelly

Friday was fun, we headed over to Scaddabush, an italian restaurant close to Sherway Gardens in Toronto. It was my cousin Kelly’s birthday so she got a few cousins and friends together for a small dinner :)

Week 8 Kellys bday at Scaddabush

They make fresh mozzarella in the kitchen that you can order as an appetizer. It was sooo good. We had it with truffle oil, honey and a balsamic reduction. Yummy.

Week 8 Monique and Kelly

The bday girl :) If you guys have been following my blog for a while you’ll recognize Monique. Monique and Kelly are sisters. We grew up a street away from each other during our childhood and were constantly over at each other’s houses. Good people :)

Week 8 Attempting to make kichadi

Ok so I’m not sure if it was the seafood in the pasta or all the travelling or what, but I woke up Saturday morning with an upset tummy. So, I attempted to make an Indian home remedy called Kichadi. It’s basically lentils, rice, ginger and some other spices that soothe your stomach. This was my very first attempt ever, can you tell?! I was really missing Derek at this point!

Week 8 kichadi

The end result looked more like soup than rice, but whatever, it tasted good and did the trick.

Questions for ya- What home remedy do you swear by for an upset stomach? Are there any foods that you are snobbish about? Would you guys want to see a breakdown of the makeup we use at CH?

My Life- NYX Love You So Mochi Event & Good Eats

Week 7 NYX Event and Good Eats

Hey guys, back with another My Life post for ya! Derek and I are about to head out to meet up with his friends and then I head back to Canada in a couple days. Can’t believe how quickly this trip flew by! I don’t want to think about leaving, but you gotta do what you gotta do and I need to get back to work. Miss my CH fam! Plus I’ve got a couple of Valentines segments coming up, I’ll let you all know when they’re on ;)

Week 7 Acai Bowl WestBean Coffee Roasters

So this week was a lot of fun and there are so many pics to share. I discovered a new coffee shop and tried an acai bowl for the first time. How come nobody told me they were so delicious?! Definitely going to have to start making these at home. This one was from WestBean Coffee Roasters in San Diego. The acai part was semi frozen and tasted like ice cream. Yumm. I also got to meet up with my Canadian friend Melis! She’s a youtuber as well. Hey what can I say, Canadians tend to flock to each other!

Week 7 Deepa Berar MelisMelis

Derek made the most amazing seafood salad the other day. He was trying out a new salad dressing recipe and it was unbelievable. Artichoke & lemon base and then some herbs mixed in. Sooo good. I’m really going to miss his cooking when I go back home.

Week 7 Chef LaVelle Seafood Salad

Saturday Derek and I were invited to the launch party for the Love you so Mochi collection by NYX in LA. Here’s the makeup I wore. You guys know how much I love my NYX Glitters!

Week 7 NYX Love You So Mochi Event Makeup

The party was at Elevate Lounge which was on the top floor of one of the high rise office buildings in Downtown LA. It was really nice cause the walls were windows that went only halfway up. Felt like you were outdoors and there was an amazing view of downtown. They’ve really done a great job revamping the downtown area.

Week 7 NYX Love You So Mochi Event Elevate Lounge LA

Derek and I. He really is the best party partner. Such a good sport! He was trying to make sure I got in some pics when I went all fan girl over the other Youtubers there.

Week 7 NYX Love You So Mochi Event Derek and I

They had displays with the collection, a few different picture walls with different props and a Mochi ice cream station.

Week 7 NYX Love You So Mochi Event

Derek and I again. Look at that smile :)

Week 7 NYX Love You So Mochi Event Derek and Deepa

They also had some dancers that did a performance and giant TV screens playing makeup tutorials!

Week 7 NYX Love You So Mochi Event Dancers

I got to meet Chrisspy again! You guys might remember my pic with her a while back. That was at the cocktail party for Genbeauty Toronto. She was so nice then and this weekend too! Her and her friends are super fun and I got to chat with them for a bit.

Week 7 NYX Love You So Mochi Event Deepa Berar Chrisspy

And I got to meet MannyMUA!! So cool!! He was so nice and his makeup was amazing, but of course it would be he’s so talented!

Week 7 NYX Love You So Mochi Event Deepa Berar MannyMUA

Swag bag! Guys, I’m so in love with this palette. You guys are going to love the collection. The highlights are amazing and the Powder Puff lippies are super nice.

Have you guys been to LA? What’s been your favourite makeup collection lately?

My Life: New Years Beach Day + My New Nephew!

Monday, January 8, 2018 0 0

Week 6 Deepa Berar and Derek LaVelle

Guys! This is our 6th weekly My Life post! This is so much fun, love sharing my life with you! How was your first week of 2018? Can’t believe we are a week in, feels like it flew by so fast, and sooo much has happened!

We’re gonna take this back to New Years day, Derek and I ended up doing a picnic on the beach. Ok, so I have this silly superstition, I think the way you spend the 1st day of the year is an indicator of how you will spend the rest of the year. Silly, I know, but it’s just something I’ve always had at the back of my mind, which is why I wanted to make sure Derek and I got out of the house, did a ton of walking and spent quality time together.

Week 6 Coronado Beach

We had plans to drive up the coast but ended up staying local and hitting up my fav San Diego beach, Coronado. It’s one of the first beaches I visited on my first trip out here and still in my opinion the nicest. It’s on Coronado Island and you have to take this super scary bridge to get there, but it’s so worth it when you do. Just beach as far as the eye can see :)

Week 6 Del Hotel Coronado

Another great thing about it is that at the one end there’s the Hotel Del which is super famous. Celebs and even presidents have stayed there. It’s huge and pretty and yes a touristy spot, but I actually enjoy being around tourists. I know it’s not what people are typically into, but for me I just feel like it’s so fun being surrounded by tourists because the one thing about vacationers is that they’re just always in such a good mood lol. Who doesn’t want to be around all that positivity??

Week 6 Ice Skating in Coronado

One thing I didn’t know they had was ice skating by the beach!! So cool.  It’s literally outdoors and you have a view of the beach while you skate. Derek and I are definitely going to try that next year.

Week 6 Ice Skating at the Del Hotel

We LOVE to do picnics on the beach and with Derek being an amazing chef and all, the food is so delicious. We joke that we’re probably the only people on the beach with a gourmet spread in our basket lol. Seriously one of our first picnics he packed seared ahi tuna, wasabi dip and baked brie. Think he was trying to impress me. It worked ;)

Week 6 Deepa Berar Coronado Beach

The weather wasn’t warm enough to go into the water, the Pacific ocean is actually pretty cold except for in the summer. So different from the Atlantic. We did so many road trips down the east coast when I was growing up, we didn’t make it out to the west coast until I was 19.

Week 6 New Years Beach Day in Coronado

The rest of the week was business as usual, kicked off your Makeup 101 series which is something I’m so excited about and you guys have been requesting.

Week 6 Filming Youtube videos

Another exciting thing was I got to interview Dr Sarah Ballantyne for the Podcast tomorrow!! You guys will remember Dr Ballantyne wrote the Paleo Approach book which is the diet I followed for the alopecia.

Week 6 Dr Sarah Ballantyne Podcast Interview

The most exciting thing that happened this week though was…my brother had another baby!!! Kai has a baby brother, Rai. He is sooo cute and I can not wait to meet the little guy :)

How was your 1st week of 2018? Do you have any weird superstitions?

An Update Video for You Guys! What to Expect for 2018

An Update video Deepa Berar

New video up for ya! A little update video for you with what’s been going on and what you can expect from me in 2018. Guys, I don’t know about you but I am sooo excited for this year! I feel like there’s so much content I want to bring to you guys and just feel like my vision is so much clearer than before.

The main focus for 2018 is going to be to help you guys as much as I possibly can, to post consistently and to be more creative with my videos so it’s really fun for you to watch. Can’t wait!

Here’s more on what you can expect:

My Life: The Last Week of 2017!

Week 5 Derek and I NYE 2017 Hard Rock San Diego

Happy New Years to all of my beautiful blog readers!! Can you believe another year has come and gone? I think the older you get the quicker the years seem to pass. Anyways, how was 2017 for you guys? It was a pretty crazy, fun packed year for me. Derek and I got married, Kai turned 1, my bestie came to visit after 4 years and I hit 13,500 subscribers on Youtube!! Can not wait to see what 2018 brings.

We are kicking off the new year with a little picnic on the beach, but before we head out I’ll take you guys through my past week. Christmas was so much fun and brought so many presents! One of my fav things- these white leather converse sneakers. White sneakers are perfect with most casual outfits. I have my hubby to thank for these!

Week 5 White Leather Converse

Derek was off work for half the week so we headed down to Harbor Drive to watch the Orange Bowl parade. America sure does love its parades. This one was for the college football game between Michigan and Washington. I didn’t realize how big college football is but it’s HUGE. Everything in the States seems to be on another level altogether.

Week 5 Orange Bowl Parade San Diego

Derek and I :)

Week 5 Derek and I

We wanted to watch the parade but we hadn’t even had breakfast so we found a great spot at Carnitas Snack Shack. It’s an outdoor bar/restaurant at the Embracadero where alot of the bigger boats and cruise ships dock. We love this spot and it gave us the best view of the parade!

Week 5 Orange Bowl Parade at Carnita's Snack Shack San Diego

I also discovered a new Rosé I like. I think I was more convinced by the bottle. How pretty is this? Sadly though I think I’m going to have to scale back on the wine. Seems to be giving me a mild skin allergy lately. It’s so tough to know what you react to that’s why they say you should try an elimination diet if you are going through any auto immune issues. We did see a sulfite remover/aerator that we might pick up to see if it helps.

Week 5 Rose

Ok so guys, I know this might not be exciting to you, but I beat Derek at Trivial Pursuit. This literally never happens. Derek is one of the smartest guys I know, like he knows almost all the answers when we watch Jeopardy. The only questions I beat him at are the science ones, go figure lol.

Week 5 Trivial Pursuit

Another awesome thing happened, I got to finally try Derek’s infamous Green Goddess dressing! People at his work go nuts over his dressings and sauces and I can totally see why. It was the best salad dressing I’ve ever had in my life! I had it while editing videos for the week.

Week 5 Chef LaVelle Green Goddess Dressing

Saturday night we wanted to get out of the house for a bit so we headed to this dive bar we’ve heard a ton about called the Cherry Bomb. Literally has the nicest owner you will ever meet and the drinks are super strong.

Week 5 Cherry Bomb San Diego

For NYE we decided to stay in this year. Ok you guys know I’m a little extra sometimes so yes I went full glam even though we were staying at home. Makeup, hair and a red dress lol.

Week 5 Deepa and Derek LaVelle NYE 2018

I’ve been using the Too Faced Cocoa contour palette as eyeshadow lately, seems to work pretty well. Paired it with the NYX glitter in Bronze and Velour lashes in Trust me Try it. For lips I went simple with Faux lipstick from MAC. Oh and the Happy New Year hairband from last year of course lol!

Week 5 NYE 2018 Deepa Berar

Would love to know what are you guys hoping to make happen in 2018?

Outtakes 2017!

Saturday, December 30, 2017 0 0

Outtakes Deepa Berar 2017

In honor of the last video of the year, I thought I’d do an outtakes one! If you have been following me for a long time you’ll remember my old videos always had outtakes at the end of them. I did that because outtakes/gag reels are my absolute fav part of any movie or show. The reason I don’t include them now is because I don’t mess up nearly as often as I used to. Which I guess is a good thing, but sometimes I miss it because it shows more of my personality.

People that know me in person know that I’m not super serious and I love to laugh and have fun as much as possible. Definitely a little too goofy at times lol.

Anyways, here’s the vid! Hope you guys like it. Oh and the part where the light kept changing, swear it kept happening like every 30 seconds during filming of that video!!

Happy 2018 everyone :)
