Deep Beauty Facebook Group

How’s everyone doing on this last Monday of May?! I am loving the fact that June is around the corner, 2 reasons, a) June=summer & b) My bestie is coming to town!! Yup, all the way from Melbourne, Australia, I get her for 8 glorious weeks! Can not wait to share our adventures with you guys. Also, can not wait to fill you guys in on my next project..the Secret Deep Beauty Facebook group!!

You guys know I’ve been working with Lauryn from The Skinny Confidential for over a year now and she has inspired me to connect and help you guys on a deeper level. Which is where the idea for the Facebook group started.

Deepa Berar and Lauryn Evarts

I wanted to create a space for all us gals to connect and share our trials & tribulations and how we got through some of the more unpleasant things in life. Like I was saying on our last Instagram live, I feel like sometimes in our culture (from what I’ve experienced at least) people can put up this image of perfection as if nothing ever goes wrong. No one wants to admit their flaws or be vulnerable, which at the end of the day doesn’t do anyone any good.

We are all sitting here suffering in silence when we could be helping lift and support one another.

I dunno about you guys but I am soooo over it all. That’s why I’m starting this group, so that we can have a safe, private (it’ll be a closed group & WOMEN only) place to share our struggles and reach out for support.

So watch out for that guys, it’ll be starting June 1st anddd, there will be a GIVEAWAY!! I’ll be choosing a winner from the 1st 50 people to join, and trust me you’ll definitely want to enter. Giveaway details will be posted in the group June 1st, I’ll be posting a link to the group on my Facebook Page.

Can’t wait to connect with you all a little bit deeper!

Alopecia Update 9 Months

Alopecia Update 9 Months Deepa Berar

New vid up for you guys! So it’s been 9 months now since my Alopecia first started and since then you guys have been requesting an update video on how things are going. So I listened and recorded an alopecia update video with how things are going now, what I’ve been doing to grow my hair back and modifications I’ve made to the AIP diet.

For those of you that don’t know about the Auto Immune Paleo Approach book by Dr Sarah Ballantyne, it’s been a game changer for sure. It’s full of all sorts of scientifically rooted facts about how the body reacts to foods that cause inflammation. Definitely worth a read if you are going through auto immune issues.

The Paleo Approach

Other than that, I’m sharing all of the vitamins/supplements I’ve been taking with you below. Like I mentioned in the video, when the alopecia first started it seemed like I was at Whole Foods picking up something new every week! Anything to help grow my hair back, which is now finally happening so I figured I’d share my vitamin list with you all in hopes that it could help.

Vitamin D

L Glutamine

Here’s the video. Like I mention in the video, I’m here if you have any questions or need to just talk about what you’ve been going through. Don’t hesitate to comment below ;)

Our Wedding Pt 1!

Friday, May 19, 2017 2 1

Derek and Deepa LaVelle

Ok ok I know I promised you guys a wedding post and it’s only taken a month (5 weeks and 1 day to be exact but who’s counting). Life’s been a bit busy can ya blame me! I’m currently sitting in sunny San Diego, enjoying the warm weather, the sunshine and dying for Derek to get back from work so we can hit the beach!

Deepa Berar Wedding Chanjara

So let’s go back to April 13th, the day I officially became Mrs. LaVelle :) You are not gonna believe how crazy that day was! I literally picked Derek up from the airport at 6:30am, brought him home so he could shower and then whisked him off away to the licensing office to pick up our marriage license!

Deepa Berar Wedding Derek LaVelle

He was such a trooper. As long as you get some coffee in him with the promise of beer later on, he is good to go haha. Honestly, I have no idea how I got so lucky, he’s always such a good sport and up for pretty much anything!

Deepa Berar Wedding Deepa and Derek LaVelle

We headed to Dunwin Gurdwara in Mississauga, Ontario. It was Vaisakhi, but luckily we were able to book a hall for the ceremony. Derek wanted to wear the whole traditional outfit with the achkan (knee length jacket & fitted leggings) and pagg (turban). I have to say, I have never seen a more perfectly done pagg on a groom before in my life. The man who tied it did such an amazing job!

Derek had never been to a sikh wedding before so I sent him a bunch of youtube videos that explain the whole ceremony. It’s so great that videos like that exist! If you guys are looking for one, here’s the best one I found.

Deepa Berar Wedding Dunwin Gurdwara

I walked into the hall with my brother, sister in-law and nephew. Honestly guys, this was the most low-key, casual Indian wedding I’ve ever been to and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Deepa Berar Wedding Father passing Chunni

Once we were seated, my Dad came over and handed me one end of the chunni (scarf) Derek was wearing. Derek held onto the other end and you aren’t supposed to let go until the ceremony is completed. Both of us held onto that chunni so tight!

After that we completed the 4 lavan which is where you walk around our holy book clockwise 4 times with each round signifying a part of the marital union. Derek was a pro! I was so proud of him. The last lavan had me a little emotional, I was just so happy and grateful to have him in my life :)

Deepa Berar Wedding Derek signing

After the lavan were completed we signed the official documents. Here’s Derek signing his life away haha!

Deepa Berar Wedding Kai with the wedding rings

We then exchanged wedding rings. Isn’t Kai just the cutest little ring bearer you’ve ever seen in your life? We were literally so distracted by his cuteness! He didn’t want to give us the boxes lol. Guess that’s what happens when you give a toy to a baby and then try to take it away.

Deepa Berar Wedding Exchanging wedding rings

After we exchanged rings, Derek made his first official appearance on my social media. We opted for good old Snapchat :)

I had to break this post down into 2 parts as there are just so many pictures to share with you guys! Also I promise I will have a wedding makeup tutorial up for you guys soon. Have a great weekend everyone!

Ladies Night in Burlington

Deepa Berar Ladies Night

Hope you guys are having a fantastic weekend so far! I am currently at the airport waiting to board a flight back to San Diego to visit the hubby for a couple of weeks! Can not wait to see him :) So if you follow me on snap, you would’ve seen our ladies night in Burlington last weekend. My friends Jasmina & Kaitryn have milestone birthdays this year so we went out to celebrate!

Ladies Night Wine

If you guys recall I mentioned letting you into my world so I’ve decided to share posts on my adventures out and about! This post took place in my hometown, Burlington, Ontario, Canada. I was born in Hamilton which is one city over but we moved to Burlington when I was 5 and I’ve lived there pretty much ever since. It’s such a great city, so pretty and clean and the people are so kind, I feel very fortunate to have grown up here :)

Ladies Night Martini Honey West

Not to mention that it’s consistently rated in the top 3 cities to live in Canada! Not a bad deal at all. Back to our girls night. My cousin Monique came over and we headed downtown to meet up with the ladies. Our first stop was Honey West for drinks. It’s a cute little spot, if you go you have to get their martinis, sooo good!

Ladies Night Honey West

The top I’m wearing is from Winner’s and the lipstick is my latest go to, Too Faced Melted Matte in Queen B. The eyes are my absolute fav palette of late, the Modern Renaissance from Anastasia Beverly Hills. I mean I don’t know of any other palette that has all killer shadows and zero fillers.

Ladies night Monique and Kaitryn

Here’s Monique & Kaitryn catching up! No girls night would be complete without a little makeup talk. Monique was showing me her recent Back 2 MAC lipstick, Purple Smoke which is a gorgeous dark purple shade.

Ladies Night Honey West Burlington

Here are Jasmina and myself. I’ve known Jasmina for years and I can say she is just one of the kindest, most caring, fun girls I’ve ever met. Totally the epitome of Deep Beauty. Her and her hubby Gil own an indoor Golf facility, FarAway Greens in Burlington which you guys have to check out if you’re close by. I’m so proud of them and all they’ve accomplished!

Ladies night Deepa Berar Jasmina Garbus

Back to the ladies night, we headed over to Downtown Bistro & Grill for dinner. I had the Bistro burger (no bun- on a bed of lettuce) with the fries. I’m not 100% on the AIP diet anymore, I’ve been working with a naturopath and she has me off gluten and my dairy intake has cut back a lot (I’m not perfect- definitely a sucker for a good charcuterie board!!). The food was great and the drinks even better!

We went onto the B&B downtown by the lake for dancing. Birthday shots for the ladies!

Ladies night B and B

So I have to say it. I’m officially getting old. Saying this because I was ready to head home by midnight haha. I used to be a dancing queen! Honestly, there wasn’t a dance floor I hadn’t met where I wasn’t the last person dancing. Glad we stuck around though because we would’ve missed out on Curdz..

Ladies Night B and B Burlington

Didn’t know Burlington has some good 2am spots for food! The poutine was fantastic. I had the Yolo Nacho (seriously any excuse for Mexican food) so, so good. It was gigantic, I took the leftovers home and it literally took 3 sittings to finish! Definitely recommend this place.

Ladies Night Curdz Burlington

So that was our evening! Question- when was your last ladies night and what did you guys do?

NARS Liquid Blush Collection Launch Hopson Grace Toronto

Wednesday, May 10, 2017 0 0

Deepa Berar NARS

Ok so how many of you are NARS fans in here? I am and have always been a huge fan!! So when I received the invite to their launch event for the NARS liquid blush collection it was an immediate heck ya I’ll be there! Plus my friend Gillian Okopny was going to be there demoing the collection. Gillian is the lead artist for NARS and just the nicest person and so hard working! So happy for her and her accomplishments :)

NARS Liquid blush collection

Ok onto the event. It was held at the Hopson Grace building in Toronto, a really nice spot for events! One of the things I love about these events I’m so lucky to attend is the attention to detail when it comes to the setup, so impressive.

NARS Liquid blush event Toronto

I mean look at how beatuifully laid out all the snacks and drinks are? Loved the prosecco, they put actual strawberries in it, so delicious!

NARS Event Hopson Grace 2017

Onto the collection. One thing about me is as much as my makeup time is my zen time, I don’t like to spend a lot of time doing it on a daily basis. That’s why I’ve shied away from liquid/cream blushes in the past, it just always seemed like an extra step to your routine. These blushes totally changed my mind.

NARS Gillian Okopny

The blush has a liquid consistency to it and blends sooo beautifully onto the skin. It’s so perfect for those of you that love the natural, dewy skin look and so gorgeous for spring! Not to mention the fact that you can use it on your eyes & lips as well. Gillian applied a wash of color onto the model’s eye crease to add some warmth to the look. Such a gorgeous affect.

NARS Whatmakesyoublush Demo

There are 4 shades: Orgasm (peachy pink with gold shimmer), Torrid (Warm coral with golden shimmer), Luster (Sheer golden apricot) and Dolce Vita (Matte dusty rose). My fav has to be Dolce Vita. Perfect for us mid skin tone gals. I’m definitely going to play around with these and use them in a tutorial for you guys! Question- what’s your fav NARS product?

Mine are the following:

Soft Matte Concealer

Radiant Creamy Concealer

Sheer Glow Foundation

Mothers Day 2017 Gift Guide Make Up For Ever

I’m back with a new beauty post for you guys, I know, I know, it’s been a while since I posted product recommendations, but not to worry cause here is your 2017 Mother’s Day gift guide! Yes, yes that is my mommy and me, way back in the day. Must’ve said something hilarious cause she is cracking up lol.

Back to our gift guide! Let’s start off with this Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Skin Booster. First off it increases skin’s hydration by 400%. Sooo good for mom’s who have concerns with fine lines or dehydration.

Next up, The Beauty Counter. Has anyone tried their products? Gotta say I am impressed. This is perfect for the mom who is into decor because the packaging is gorgeous and would look great on any counter! The Beauty Counter Sugar body scrub feels so good on the skin and their Sheer lipstick is super moisturizing with a sheer coverage and one of their best sellers.

Mothers Day 2017 Gift Guide Beauty Counter

Next up is Eau Contemporaine fragrance in Coton. Smells so fresh and pretty! This is the first cosmetic fragrance Simon’s is carrying so you know it’s good. There are two other scents, Soie which has more floral & woody notes; and Lin which has more of a musk scent with bergamot. They’re all so nice! Lin is my fave.

Mothers Day 2017 Gift Guide Eau Contemporaine

Lastly is the Burt’s Bees lip line. Have you guys checked out Burts Bees lately? I have to admit, I used to only go to them for their lip balm (my every day lip moisturizer!) but they have totally expanded their line of lip products. They’ve got lip oils now, lipsticks and lip crayons to mention a few. This is great for the mom that’s into natural products.

Have you guys done your Mother’s Day shopping yet? I’d love to know what you got her!

Deepa Berar Makeup Artist Freelance

Howdy peeps! Hope you guys are having a fantabulous day so far. Happy Cinco de Mayo to y’all! And happy weekend, it’s just a few hours away so hang in there! So I am sharing a little photoshoot fun that I had last week with my friends & family. I had the girls over to my place and did their hair & makeup and took some pics to revamp my portfolio. For those of you not in the know, I have been a professional Makeup artist for 12 years now (time flies!!).

Deepa Berar Makeup Brushes

So the idea behind the photoshoot was to update my portfolio. While I’ve done a ton of freelancing over the years, for some reason I don’t have a ton of pics of my work other than my 5 gazillion selfies on Insta haha.

Deepa Berar Makeup Artist

Jackie & Cara who you’ll remember from our Bella Trois days came over last week for some much needed catch up time. It had been almost a year since we’d all been together at the same time! Can’t believe how fast time flies, it’s crazy. Anyways it seemed like no time had past at all.

Deepa Berar Portfolio Jaclyn Colville 3

How stunning. I mean of course I immediately thought to call my Bella girls, aren’t they just so gorgeous?!

Deepa Berar Cara Cameron

I also had my beautiful cousins over a few days later to shoot some South Asian inspired looks (and let’s be real, any excuse to hang out with them is a good one). They looked so great! Natural born models if you ask me.

Deepa Berar Portfolio Mona Berar

Loved using the NYX glitter on these girls, NYX has so many different colours to choose from and their glitter primer is hands down my fav glitter glue.

Has anyone tried the Ciate liquid velvet lip products? I used the shade Bitter Sweet on Preet below. It’s really nice cause it’s not drying at all and the colour selection is gorgeous!

How to Live a Fulfilling Life

Deepa Berar How to Live a fulfilling life

Happy April everyone! It’s finally starting to feel like spring around here, yay! It’s strange to go from summer weather in San Diego to winter in Canada and then to spring within 3 weeks, but I’m just grateful the weather is starting to warm up a little. The warm weather and sunshine just puts everyone in a good mood :)

Pandora Do Spring 2017 Jewelry

So today’s post is an important one, I’ve got another Deep Beauty video for you and we are talking about how to live a fulfilling life. I was totally inspired by PANDORA’s new campaign called DO which is all about female empowerment and being true to yourself. Such an important message.

Living a fulfilled life has more to do with helping others than it does with helping yourself. I get so inspired when I see people that go out of their way to give their time and energy to make someone else’s life better. Just gives you the feels! I’m also super impressed by brands that do this, which is why I wanted collaborate with #DOPANDORA on this video.

Filled with Romance PANDORA Rose

As a brand they are continually doing things to reduce their environmental impact and promote sustainable behaviours. They don’t need to do this, they choose to. They’re also partnered with Dress For Success which is an amazing charity that does all sorts of things to help empower women. They don’t need to partner with them, they choose to.

We are all given the opportunity to help others, as the saying goes everyone has the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce. What you do with those hours is up to you.

Pearlescent Hearts of PANDORA band Silver Ring

Taking the initiative to help someone else out with no expectations in return is what fulfillment is all about. I’ve had many people help me in my life and wouldn’t be where I am today without them! As I’ve mentioned before I’ve been working with a mentor, Lauryn Evarts for the past year. Her one requirement at the end of our mentorship is for me to go on and mentor someone else. Amazing concept! So watch out for that, I’ll be posting that in the next few months :)

Here’s the video! I’d love to know if any of you have gone out of your way to help someone in need, I’d love to hear your stories! Let me know in the comments.

My Impromptu Bachelorette Party!

Thursday, April 27, 2017 0 0

Deepa Berar Bachelorette

Hello hello hello! Hope you’re all enjoying this unbelievably gorgeous day out there, I am currently in a Starbucks enjoying all the sunshine coming through the windows and thinking about how I can’t wait to bust out with the summer sandals! Got a fun post for you all! You might recall me mentioning I have big news that I wanted to share with you all (if you follow me on social media you already know)..I got married!! Yes I have been officially married for 2 weeks now. 2 whole weeks!

Deepa Bachelorette

I can’t believe it! I know I’ve been pretty private about that part of my life, I’ll share more on that later, but now that we’re married you will get to know all about the luck guy (haha, yes yes I am lucky too). We’ll start off with his name, Derek. He’s a chef from San Diego, hence all the time I’ve been spending there lately. We’ll get into more about him & the wedding over the next few posts, but let’s get to the fun stuff, the bachelorette!

Bachelorette shots

Deepa Berar Bachelorette drinks

I totally wasn’t expecting to have one. As you all know this isn’t my 1st marriage, it’s my 2nd (AND LAST!!) so I’ve already done all that stuff before. But. My cousins had something else in mind. Have I mentioned I have the best family/friends in the world?!

Deepa Berar Bachelorette dinner Cibo Toronto

Anyways back to the bachelorette, we started off at my cousin Tania’s condo downtown Toronto. They had it decorated with all sorts of fun bachelorette snacks!

Yummy stuff cupcakes

We headed out to Cibo Wine bar on King West in Toronto. I love this place, totally my vibe! Great food, great atmosphere and a great crowd. I had the porcini mushroom risotto, delicious!

Cibo Toronto Risotto

After that we ended up across the street at Early Mercy for drinks & dancing. Has anyone been there before? This was our first time. The girls had me wear a veil which was so fun. All night people were coming up to me asking if I was getting married. Everyone was so excited, it was really sweet.

Deepa Berar Early Mercy

My fav part of the whole night was the Sesame Street dance they had on the TV’s. I have no idea how they did it, but it was up the whole night and the dance would be completely in sync with the music playing. Amazing. It’s the little things in life people ;)

All in all it turned out to be a pretty amazing night. I felt like Charlotte from Sex & the City, you guys remember that episode where they ended up at a bar right before she was getting married and there was a group of ladies that were celebrating a bachelorette there? Anyways Charlotte felt like she didn’t have the right to celebrate since it was her 2nd marriage and the bachelorette gave her the veil she was wearing and they made her celebrate and she had the best time ever. That’s how I felt :)

Deepa Berar Bachelorette party

Stay tuned for a bachelorette makeup tutorial, I’ll have that up for you guys soon!

Mrs LaVelle

Question- How do you guys feel about 2nd marriages? Do you think you should celebrate all of it all over again? I didn’t at first but I’m glad I got to. Thank you cousins!!
