What a Hair Primer does and why you need it

Wednesday, July 30, 2014 0 0

So we’ve all heard of face primers and why they’re an important part of your makeup routine, but many of us haven’t hear of hair primers and why you need it as part of your hair routine.

Hair primers work basically to extend the style of your hair. We put so much effort into blow drying & styling our hair the day we wash it, wouldn’t it be nice if the look lasted a few days? Well now it can!

Take a look at the hair primers below to find which one would be right for you.

living proof style extender cream 2

Living Proof Prime Style extender Spray/Cream

Both formulations are designed to repel dirt & oil to keep hair cleaner and extend styles 2x longer. The spray was created specifically for fine hair and is perfect for those of you that love volumized hair. The cream is good for all hair types. Both are pretty much weightless so they can be layered under other styling products and are sulfate-free, silicone-free and oil-free.

How to get Big sexy waves in 5 minutes!

Friday, April 25, 2014 2 0

Yes you read it right, this week’s tutorial is on hair! I have been waving my hair with a wand for a while now, I love how quick & easy it is to do. I had a conversation with my bestie the other day and she mentioned how happy she is that I forced her to buy a wand (lol what are best friends for!) & taught her how to do 5 minute waves. It really takes no time at all once you get the hang of it.

Plus if you already have naturally wavy/curly hair, all you need to do is touch up random pieces here & there, you wouldn’t even need to do your whole head. I added some bonus tips for when you have a little extra time to get ready ;)

Happy weekend ladies! Oh and don’t forget to visit back tomorrow, I’ll be announcing our contest winner ;)

4 tips to Protect your Hair from the Humidity

Wednesday, July 4, 2012 0 0

We’ve gone through tips on how to make your Makeup last through the summer heat and humidity, now let’s talk about hair! This one is trickier because you can spend hours primping and ironing only to take one step into that wall of moisture outside and *poof* all your hard work is gone and all you are left with is this frizzy mop on top of your head. Not to worry though, I am here with some great tips to keeping your mane looking gorgeous all summer long:

1. Flat iron your hair before you leave home. This is always my fool proof, won’t let me down tip I love for the summer. The flat iron is different than a round brush/blow dryer combo as it actually presses your hair into pin straight locks and helps ward off the effects of the humidity. Do note though, if your hair comes in contact with even a fine mist of water, it will start to frizz so steer clear of all sprinklers!!!

2. Leave in conditioner. This should be your first step to preventing frizz. Leave in conditioner will load hair up with moisture and in result protect it from the effects of the summer air. Use a heavier conditioner for curly locks and a lightweight formula if you have fine hair, and only spritz the bottom half so as to not weigh down the hair too much.

3. Humidity proof spray. Finish your styling off with a light mist of any humidity combating spray before you leave the house. This will help ward off the effects of the moist air for longer than just hairspray alone, sealing out the humidity and keeping your hair looking fresh and gorgeous all day.

4. DON’T touch your hair! This is the biggest tip I can leave you with!! Whatever you do, leave your tresses alone. The more you touch it, the bigger it will get and you will end up looking like a chia pet. As they love to say – set it and forget it!

What do you do to keep your hair looking soft and shiny all day?

Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray Review

Wednesday, April 11, 2012 0 0

Ever wished for those fun beachy locks you’ve seen on people like Blake Lively and Mary Kate & Ashley, but had no idea how to achieve it? Well look no further because I have the secret product you need to nail that look!

It’s by Bumble & Bumble and it’s called Surf Spray. This stuff is meant to mimic the effect a day at the beach would have on your hair. I dunno about you, but I LOVE the way my hair looks after spending time in the salty air and water. It’s got more curl in it and a sexiness that you wish you could wake up with everyday.

There are couple of different ways to use it- either spray it on damp hair and then let it air dry for that messy look, or on dry, styled hair for a sexy, tousled look. The best way to use it is to start from the ends of your hair and work your way up to the root.

Either way you use it, this stuff is amazing and worth every penny!! You can find it at your local Sephora.

Top 5 Hair Tools every girl should have

Thursday, January 19, 2012 2 0

The first most often overlooked place to start when it comes to recreating any fab hairstyle is your tools. Just like makeup brushes, investing in the right hair tools will help you come close to achieving almost any look. I’ve compiled a list of the top 5 hair tools every girl needs:

1. Flat iron. This is probably the most obvious one but to really get the results you want you have to invest in quality. A high quality flat iron will take less time to straighten your hair, resulting in less heat exposure to your delicate strands. Brands like Chi & GHD make great irons.

2. Hair dryer. When it comes to a hair dryer, finding one that cuts your drying time in half is like finding the holy grail. Celebrity hair stylist, Harry Josh recommends the FHI Nano Salon Pro 2000 Blow Dryer. Plus using the nozzle attachment will help direct air flow, resulting in less time spent drying your hair!

3. A 3/4″ curling iron. The smaller barrel will allow you to do things like wrap hair around the barrel without using the clip, giving a tight yet loose wave. Check out my Bohemian Waves Hair Tutorial on how to get this look.

4. A 1 1/2″ curling iron. This will give you those giant waves you see on celebs like Kim Kardashian. Hot Tools makes some of the greatest curling irons on the market.

5. Velco Rollers. If you love watching shows like Top Model, you will know that any time they’re getting ready for a shoot, their hair is up in rollers. Velco rollers will give your hair the bend and the volume to achieve most hair styles. Hair spray hair right after you blowdry, set in rollers and remove after 1/2 hour. That will give your hair enough time to set while you do other things like your makeup.

How to get thicker hair

Thursday, September 29, 2011 2 0
There are a ton of products out there that claim to give you thick, luxurious hair but you can only do so much once it emerges from your scalp, what we often forget is that beauty actually begins on the inside. Literally.

If you want thicker strands, try looking at your local health food store. There are some great supplements that you can take to promote follicular development. Some of the ones that I have heard that work really well are:

BioSil. Boosts your body’s production of collagen, in turn strengthening your individual hair strands. And it’s good for your skin & nails too.

Omegas. If you’re a fan of Dr. Oz, you know he loves this stuff, and for good reason too. Omegas prevent your scalp from drying out which in turn prevents unnecessary hair loss.

Viviscal. This one has gotten rave reviews by celebs for its results and 100% natural ingredients.

But just like anything else, if you want to look healthy on the outside, you have to begin by being healthy on the inside. So go eat your veggies!

The best styling cream for curly hair

Thursday, September 1, 2011 0 0

You may not know this about me, but I don’t actually have straight hair. I know it’s a big shocker! My hair is actually wavy, no I’m not blessed with gorgeous curls or pin straight hair, it’s this gross in-between, kinky mess of a mop that requires some elbow grease to look good. So that’s why I get excited whenever I find products that do amazing things with my hair.

AG’s recoil cream is my favorite styling cream for curly hair. It’s pretty thick and leaves your hands feeling a little coated, but it works great at defining and activating curls. You use about a loonie sized amount at a time and comb it through your hair with your fingers. Afterwards, scrunch, blow dry with a diffuser and you are good to go.

Here’s my hair styled with the cream

Pomade or Wax? The key to textured hair

Thursday, August 25, 2011 2 0

So you’re going for a textured look with your hair, but you’re not sure what to use to achieve this look. There are so many options out there, it can be confusing to know which to use for what. Hair pomade and wax are no exceptions. There isn’t a whole lot of difference between them, but how do you know which one to use?

Hair wax can be applied to wet or dry hair (it’s much easier to apply on wet hair). and is better used on short/medium length hair. It works best if you warm it up with your hands first and is great for clumping hair together or to add points to your hair if you have a bob.

Hair pomade does have some wax in it, the remainder is usually an oil based substance and it is applied to wet hair. It works great when applied in large amounts and will give the hair a glossier look. Hair pomade can be used on short, medium or even long hair and can even be used in smaller sections to give that textured, piecey look.

Whichever of the two you decide to go with, both will offer texture and medium hold, the main difference between the two is that wax will give you a matte look and pomade will offer a nice shine to the hair.

What are your fav wax/pomade products?

Va-va-va Voluminous Locks!

Monday, June 27, 2011 0 0

So I know I’m Indian and all, but contrary to popular belief, we don’t all have naturally thick, voluminous hair like all of those Bollywood starlets you’ve seen. Not that I don’t have a lot of hair, there’s tons of it on my head, but it’s flatter than the Mojave desert.  If you’re struggling with the same problem, you know what I mean. But don’t worry girls, I’ve found the solution to our problems! My fav new hair product of the moment is Frederic Fekkai’s Instant Volume Root Lifting Spray. You spray it directly on your roots when your hair is damp and blow dry (it’s heat activated). It gives instant and lasting lift. Try it!

Harry Josh in Anokhi Magazine

Wednesday, June 1, 2011 4 0

I recently wrote an article for Anokhi Magazine profiling celebrity Hair Stylist, Harry Josh. Harry is one of New York’s top stylists, working on celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Fergie and BFF Gisele Bundchen. You can snag a copy of Anokhi at your local Chapters book store. I had so much fun interviewing Harry, it’s hard to believe even though he has achieved such an incredible amount of success in his life, he is still so very humble and generous.

Thank you Harry!
