The Bella Trois girls and I are back with another video for you, in this one we discuss our favorite sunglasses. I feel like sunglasses are such a personal choice as everyone has a completely different face shape. It can be tricky knowing which frames would suit your face best so I found this handy guide from stylebydarien.com.

Seven beauty & fashion Must haves for Summer!

Thursday, June 12, 2014 0 0

Summer is finally  here!! (Ok fine technically we still have a week left but I decided to skip over spring altogether, can you blame me?). The best part about summer besides the parties and the good weather? The clothes and the makeup of course!!

seven summer must haves

I put together a list of my seven beauty & fashion must haves for summer to help you on your next shopping trip ;)

Crop top

This summer is all about the crop top. Now don’t worry if you don’t have a flat midriff, I definitely don’t but there are still options like pairing it with a high waisted skirt or there are even dresses where it looks like a crop top & skirt but it’s all attached. Yay!

Harry Josh blow dryer

You can tell that celeb hair stylist Harry Josh put a lot of care into crafting his first ever tool before releasing it because not only does this hair dryer have the highest power of any hair dryer with an 80mph airflow but it also has the longest lasting motor at 2000 hours. You can find it here.

UD electric

We’re all so used to summer meaning bright lips, and while that’s still on trend, this summer is all about colorful eyes. By far my fav palette has to be the Urban Decay electric palette with all of its neon goodness <3

tarte amazonian clay

There is nothing worse than melty makeup in the hot, humid air! There’s no need to have to deal with this problem as technology has come so far and there are some great waterproof and resistant foundations that will stay put like this Tarte Amazonian clay one.

Body chain

Ok I don’t know about you, but I don’t exactly have a beach in my backyard so I’m not living in bikinis all summer long. That’s why I’m loving the body chain over your tank top trend, you can still rock the look wherever you live!

Batiste

Dry Shampoo is EVERYTHING. Let’s face it, most of us don’t have the time to wash our hair every day, that’s why this product is a saviour. You can extend the look of first day hair to the 2nd, 3rd and yes even 4th (hey don’t judge- you know we’ve all done it at some point!) day. My fav is the Batiste dry shampoo.

UD All nighter setting spray

Ok just like your hair needs hairspray to stay put, your makeup needs a setting spray. It’s all about the Urban Decay All nighter setting spray, this stuff works wonders anddd it’s paraben free yay!

What is your must have for summer 2014?

Best makeup looks from the 2014 MTV Movie awards

Monday, April 14, 2014 2 0

Did you catch last night’s 2014 MTV Movie awards? Host Conan O’Brian did a great job as predicted and the show itself was pretty fun & entertaining. The makeup & hair was phenomenal, the girls looked amazing! Here are my picks for best makeup looks from the 2014 MTV Movie awards.

First up is Rita Ora. That red lip and soft smokey eye look flawless on her. Whoever did her makeup, if they aren’t huge already, I predict a long, successful career for them!

MTV 2014 Rita Ora

Next is Debby Ryan. Now I can’t for the life of me recall what this girl has been in, but she definitely stood out last night. That hair color combined with the lip shade, simply stunning.2014 MTV Movie Awards - Arrivals

Ok you may not agree with me on this one. While her dress isn’t the greatest, Victoria Justice looked so fresh and springy in that mauve pink lip color. This girl totally reminds me of a young Vanessa Marcil.MTV 2014 Victoria Justice

My last pick of the night is Jessica Alba. She looks gorgeous in anything. I especially love the bronzed makeup with that smoking hot outfit. By far the best dressed of the night.MTV 2014 Jessica Alba2 MTV 2014 Jessica AlbaWhat was your fav beauty/fashion moment of the night?

Toronto Fashion Week Fall 2014 David Dixon

Wednesday, March 19, 2014 0 0

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Toronto fashion week Fall 2014 David Dixon show at David Pecaut Square. David Dixon is a brilliant designer and the thing I love about him is that his clothing always has this super feminine vibe to it. We were invited backstage to see the looks come to life through hair, makeup & mani’s and then got to watch the show & see all the beautiful dresses. Here are some pics & what the lead artists had to say about bringing the look to life.

IMG_1658This was the look of the evening. David Dixon was going for a soft, beautiful, fresh & feminine feel with the makeup and hair.

IMG_1654Lead makeup artist for Maybelline Canada, Grace Lee worked her magic bringing the designer’s vision to life. Here’s a breakdown of the look she created:

Skin- Dream Fresh BB cream

Eyes- Color Tattoo in Inked in Pink on the eyelid & Bold Gold in the inner corners, Brown Kohl liner to define the lash line

Brows- Filled in with pencil, brushed up & set with clear Great Lash mascara

Lashes- New Pumped up mascara

Cheeks- Just pinched pink on the apples and a bit of nude master highlight over top

Lips- Eternal Rose 14hr lipstick

IMG_1646I ran into an old friend/mentor from my MAC days, makeup artist Eden Bluestein. Eden is the on-air beauty expert for Marilyn Denis and an amazing woman. She totally exemplifies “inner & outer beauty”. She is just as beautiful a person on the inside as she is on the outside. Miss my MAC girls!

IMG_1647Next up we spoke with Jorge Joao, lead hairstylist from Redken Canada, definitely my fav hair brand. Everyone working for this company is so amazing and their products are beautiful.

IMG_1635Don’t know why my hair looks so red in this pic, it really doesn’t look like that in real life lol. Now to come up with the hair look, Jorge & David chatted over skype to discuss the style. Jorge created a beautiful, soft, low chignon with a very deep part. He said David really wanted the girls to look pretty, classic and timeless with a twist.

IMG_1640The challenge was that Jorge and his team of 35 hairstylists had 15 minutes to transform the girls from the last look which had that wet-with-tons-of-gel style, to soft, pretty & feminine. They worked their magic and got it done.

IMG_1644Next we spoke with Lead nail artist for Essie Canada, Rita Remark. The look she created for David was a classic french manicure with a twist. The nails were a subtle white hue with a soft pink tip. Here’s how she created the look:

-Use Essie nail filler first to keep the white from streaking

-Apply 2 coats of Essie Blanc followed by 1 coat of Limo-scene

-Paint the tips with Fiji

Rita also mentioned that pastel nails are going to be huge for fall, which I thought was very interesting considering in Fall everything is usually pretty dark. Wonder if this will translate to the clothes? Hmm..

IMG_1663This is what the runway looks like before a show starts. Pandemonium and so awesome.

IMG_1665My friend & assistant for the evening, Jasmina. We had the honour of sitting front row! One of the coolest experiences and definitely the best place to watch a fashion show.

IMG_1671The clothing was so beautiful, flowy and elegant. Lots of whites, soft pinks and big diamondy jewelry. Can’t wait for the Spring 2015 show!

Fall makeover segment at Joelle’s

Wednesday, October 16, 2013 0 0

This has got to be one of my favorite parts of my job, doing makeovers. I love going into a store and being able to choose anything off the racks, putting outfits together for someone and coming up with hair/makeup concepts, it’s so much fun :D

Makeover contest winner and all around amazing woman Torria met me at Joelle’s, one of the chicest boutiques in downtown Burlington. If you haven’t shopped there, you are in for a treat! This was Torria’s before. Joelle makeover

We started with makeup and hair, changing the looks in between to suit the outfits.

Joelle makeover 4 Joelle makeover 2

The first outfit we put her in was an amped up everyday look, she had on an Ella Moss jacket, Hudson jeans, a Mackage bag and Franco Sarto boots. Joelle makeover 6

Her second outfit was for a girls night out. I loved this Michael Kors jacket! And the Rebecca Minkoff bag, her handbags are amazing. Printed jeans are huge for this season, and these 7 for all mankind jeans fit Torria perfectly.

Joelle makeover 5

The final outfit was for a fancy dinner or cocktail party. In case you haven’t noticed, burgundy is THE color of the season and looked gorgeous on Torria. I played up her lips to compliment the dress.

Joelle makeover 7 Here is Joelle’s owner, Joelle and us. Her and her team, especially Vicki, were so amazing and helpful, I can’t thank them enough!!

Joelle makeover 3We filmed the makeover for CHCH Morning Live and I was in the studios yesterday to show the clip.

The 6 best beauty & fashion looks from the 2013 Emmys

Monday, September 23, 2013 0 0

Did you get a chance to catch the 2013 Emmy’s last night? My fav part had to be the beginning when all the past hosts joined last night’s host, Neil Patrick Harris on stage, too funny, especially Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, love those two!

The red carpet was equally as entertaining, it’s actually been quite a while since I’ve been so excited by a red carpet. If last night was any indication, glamour is back! Here are the 6 best beauty & fashion looks from the 2013 Emmys.

Let’s start with my fav dresses. Kerry Washington pretty much gets it right every time and this dress was no exception. It fit well in all the right places, she looked gorgeous.

Emmy 2013 Kerry Washington

Speaking of dresses with a good fit, Sofia Vergara wowed in this gorgeous red lace number. I especially love the detailing around the waist.Emmy 2013 Sofia Vergara

Now onto the 2 best burgundy dresses of the night! The first one here is worn by Heidi Klum. The neckline is so fun and the sequins totally set the detailing of the dress off.Emmy 2013 Heidi Klum

Kaley Cuoco’s fashion is so much fun, I love to see what she is wearing because she always has a girly touch to her image! Love the way this dress totally cinches in her waist, making her look TINY and then flairs out. So beautiful.Emmy 2013 Kaley Cuoco

Now for my fav beauty looks. The first is Emily Deschanel, the sister of Zoey Deschanel. I feel like her look is old hollywood meets new hollywood with the romantic, waved updo paired with the neon pink lips. Very modern.Emmy 2013 Emily Deschanel

Of course Julianne Hough would end up on my list! Those eyes get me every time. What I did want to point out to you though is how the makeup artist uses the eyeshadow in a way to compliment her eye shape. Julianne has little eyelid space when she opens her eyes, you mostly see the crease. Her makeup artist carries the darker shadow up quite a bit into her crease to take advantage of that extra space and balance her eyes. Great technique for those of you with similar eyes.Emmy 2013 Julianne Hough2And the icing on the cake was, my fav show Breaking Bad won for best dramatic series!! Did you watch? What were your fav looks?

Mother’s Day makeover on CHCH Morning Live

Tuesday, May 28, 2013 0 0

In the spirit of Mother’s Day, I embarked on a quest to give one special, well deserving mom a little thank you with a head-to-toe makeover.  We all know the last thing a mom will think about is putting her self first so I decided to take the reigns!

Chantal Kelly-Neves is a stay at home mom of 3. Now that her kids are grown up, Chantal is looking to re-enter the workplace and a little fun to her social life!

I started with the makeup. I gave her an effortless everyday look and taught her how to take it into night.

She had a hair refresher courtesy of Madison Salon in Hamilton. They updated her layers and injected a little vibrancy into her color.

We took Chantal to Milli’s clothing boutique in Hamilton, a long standing business with a devoted clientele and a roster of serious designers in their showroom. We put together 3 outfits for her:

-A back to work look
-A versatile dress that can go from dinner to cocktail to wedding reception
-A girls night look

We filmed the entire makeover and aired it on CHCH Morning Live. This segment was sooo much fun to do, hopefully we’ll have more looks for you in the future.

Here’s the clip!

Toronto fashion week- Trend watch!

Monday, April 1, 2013 0 0

I was fortunate enough to attend Mastercard Fashion Week in Toronto a couple weeks back at David Pecaut square, next to the Roy Thompson Hall. It was such a fun event, I love the craziness that goes on back stage with hair & makeup people working like mad and models and photogs running around! That combined with the fact that it was uber windy and the tents felt like they were gonna knock over, it definitely made for an interesting evening.

I was on trend watch, checking out the latest in the beauty world and I was not disappointed. Maybelline lead makeup artist, Grace Lee worked her magic once again, using her expertise to bring the designers visions to life.

MCFWFW2013 2I love this soft smokey eye/bright lip combo she used for the Chloe Comme Paris show! The look according to Grace was “rich club girl gone bad” layering multiple Maybelline products on top of each other such as Baby lips and Maybelline’s new shadow pigments due out soon. 8574632057_761406404b_cThe lip was a combinations of Color Sensational vivids in “On fire red” & “Electric orange”. The result was effortlessly gorgeous.

MCFWFW2013

For the hair, Redken lead artist Jorge Joao used Guts 10 to give the hair that gritty texture and then french braided one side of the hair and added a few other braids. Here’s the team hard at work!

MCFWFW2013 4A few sections of the hair were wrapped around a 1″ curling iron and set with Control Addict 28 hairspray. Which is amazing btw, I was always an avid Sebastian Shaper plus user, but I have now totally fallen in love with the lasting effect the Control Addict has. Definitely worth trying!

Redken-controll-addict-28Essie was there representing nails and I love this swirly metallic look. Lead artist Rita Remark used multiple colors (No place like chrome, Trophy wife, Overt the top, Midnight cami & Sexy divide) swirled together which created the look. Nails have become so much fun as of late, which I totally attribute to Pinterest & Youtube.

MCFWFW2013 3Here’s the models strutting their stuff on the runway.

Red Carpet fun at the 2013 Screen Actors Guild awards

Monday, January 28, 2013 0 0

The Screen Actors Guild awards took place last night in Los Angeles, and while the Oscars is usually the one that steals the show, this one is my personal fav of all the awards shows. The reason being that the winners are voted on by their peers. The panel consists of fellow actors in the industry, so basically it’s the best of the best saying who the actual best is. If you know what I mean. It’s also the last red carpet before the big show and filled with amazing looks. Here are some great looks for ya!

Amanda Seyfried in Zac Posen. This dress is just so pretty from the color to the ruffles, and she pulls it off beautifully.

sag 2013 amanda seyfriedJessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen. It’s no secret that it can be difficult to pull off a red dress on a red carpet (with red hair too!) but she does it. The cut of the dress combined with the fine detailing really enhances her shape.

sag 2013 jessica chastainBy far my fav dress of the night had to be Marian Cotillard. It is such a unique piece and makes her look so dainty! Hard to tell she was sick with the flu last night. Love the bob and deep side part in her hair.

sag 2013 marian cotillardKatrina Bowden wins my vote for overall look. The dress combined with the hair and makeup, it all went together perfectly. I love a light dress with a smokey eye/nude lip combo, it adds drama and makes the look more interesting.

sag 2013 katrina bowdenMy fav makeup for the evening was Morena Baccarin. The pic doesn’t even begin to show off the contoured eye. The makeup artist did a fab job contrasting a lighter shade on the lid with a warm dark shadow in the crease. That combined with the pop of color on the lips looked great on her.

sag 2013 morena baccarin2Best hair for the evening goes to Jennifer Lawrence. The side swept hair was a very popular look last night and Jennifer pulled it off the best IMO. Beauty and fashion are a lot of fun, but to me a women looks prettiest when she can pull the look off effortlessly. It evokes a sense of confidence, which is the sexiest accessory of all.
