Dark spots, discoloration and pregnancy masks develop over time and can seem tough to get rid of, but with all of the advancements in skincare chemistry and laser technology, treating dark pigmentation is achievable.
If you are just starting out with treating your dark spots & pigmentation, the best place to start with is creams. The most effective cream will come in the form of a serum. Serums are highly concentrated delivering a higher concentration of ingredients to banish dark spots. Look for a serum containing Vitamin C as this will help brighten & lighten dark pigment and retinoids which is a derivative of Vitamin A that boosts the skins cell turnover rate. This in turn reduces the appearance of fine lines and discoloration. Bonus. Try the Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance serum.
There are a ton of treatments out there from chemical peels to microdermabrasion that can help with your dark spots. At home kits like the Ole Henriksen Power Peel system are great for those of you that want to try a more affordable option, or you can always visit your dermatologist and get a professional peel or even microdermabrasion. These treatments basically remove surface skin which allows new, healthy cells to generate.
If you really want to see immediate and drastic results, laser is the way to go. Laser penetrates the skin to destroy the cells containing the dark pigment, all while not affecting the surrounding cells. This is probably the best option for those of you with a pregnancy mask. Pregnancy masks are larger, more concentrated spots of dark pigment that develop when pregnant and while in some instances fade away after the baby is born, for a lot of women they stay long after.
